Pond Pit BBQ
About This Spot
Pulling into the quiet stretch of State Route 3 just outside Sandy Creek, Pond Pit BBQ greets you with a sense of easy familiarity — a spot where the day slows just enough to savor the simple pleasure of great barbecue. It’s the kind of place where neighbors and travelers alike drop in for a taste of hearty, smoky comfort and friendly conversation. The humble setting encourages a laid-back mood, one that feels less like a formal dining experience and more like sharing a backyard cookout with new friends.
Inside, the atmosphere hums with warmth and a touch of rustic charm. The scent of wood smoke mingles with the rich aromas drifting from the pit, promising that the menu is crafted with care and patience. Guests often find themselves lingering over classic pairings — the kind of rich and creamy mac and cheese, tender smoked meats, and perfectly baked cornbread that invite slow, satisfied bites. Whether you settle in for a casual meal or grab a plate to go, there’s an undeniable feeling that each dish carries a story, a rhythm, and a love for barbecue that runs deep.
This is more than just a stop for sustenance; it’s a place where connections happen. The ease of the space, the welcoming nature of the people behind the counter, and the shared appreciation for good food combine into a genuine local vibe. Food is amazing! We stopped on the way back from Grimshaw Farms. I had the Huey hog sandwich. My husband half a pig plate. We will be traveling the 45 minutes for bbq.

This place checks all my boxes! Sage is an absolute SWEETHEART! I asked so many questions! The owner came out and shot the breeze between orders. Its a nice laid back spot that will not disappoint! I had the Huey hog w salt potatoes and mac n cheese. DELICIOUS! Do yourself a flavor and check them out!

Best dang BBQ in upstate NY better than dinosaur and all. The sauces are amazing everything was top tier. I got one suggestion they should add a 3 way or 2 way platter so you can mix n match meats with sides.

Omg cannot wait to go back!!! It’s about an hour from us but we will gladly make the drive again. Food was incredible! Great prices, great service, and food came out quick. We got the “Pig Pen” with Mac n cheese. Wonderful place, definitely check it out! :)

The food is good. I recommend take out because there is no real dining room & seating isn't the best. Also, the bands are too loud for the small space. IMPORTANT!! Call ahead because they constantly close WITHOUT NOTICE.

We finally made it up to Pond Pit BBQ in Sandy Creek. We shared the brisket nachos and the Pig Pen (basically a garbage plate). The nachos were awesome. Smothered in meat and sauces. The chips were super crispy. The Pig Pen was enormous. The lady at the order window even warned me about it. We also got the bigger one with mac n cheese added. Everything in that was good, but the standouts for me were the chicken and the mac n cheese. Despite our best efforts, we weren't able to conquer all of it, but we gave it the ol college try. Maybe the best thing about this place, though, is the drinks. I had a beer, she had two huge cocktails. $10 total for the drinks. As others have mentioned before, this place doesn't have traditional service. You seat yourself. Order/pay for food at the window. Order/pay for your drinks at the bar. If you find yourselves up in the area, give them a try. You won't be disappointed!

The portions are huge! I ordered the poutine appetizer with brisket, a side of coleslaw and a side of corn bread. Did not need the sides--the appetizer was HUGE! Everything everyone else order was huge, too. We were in town for the eclipse and were so glad we found this place. Really great food with large portions.
